Espar heater location

I would like to install an Espar gas heater and am looking for input on the location I have in mind. I built a small compartment directly behind seats that also serves as a footrest when seats are turned. This would be ideal but would place heater with fuel connection and exhaust directly above small tank (whatever it is) that is behind fuel tank. The other option is in a cabinet on the drivers side directly behind the foot rest compartment. This would place the fuel connection and exhaust between the beam (behind fuel tank) and muffler. I am attaching photos for clarity. Does anyone know if there is any safety or other issues with either of these locations?

Thanks Steve. That looks close to where I am thinking. My main concern is underneath. Do you happen to have a photo of where yours comes through? Do you know if there might be an issue coming through above the small tank behind gas tank?

someone here, maybe 2 people, installed the heater next to the step, can't find the post at the moment

I put my Espar exactly where SteveSS did, coincidently I even used the same exact piece of vent pipe on the install. If I remember correctly it was a 4" hole saw (A real arm breaker to drill if you're not careful!) I added the muffler about 2ft behind it on the same side and the fuel tank on the passenger's side underneath just behind the sliding door.
The added bonus with this location is that it allows a bit of piping on both the intake and exhaust. That helps to dampen the fan noise a bit, as opposed to coming straight out of the heater.

I appreciate the feedback, thanks. "Recommended Reading" below showed a couple more threads on the subject. I am including a link to a video for future inquiries that shows the exact location I will use. Oh, and great minds think alike - I too am planning to use the duct end cap for protection.

Hi folks, has anyone installed under the passenger seat? Willing to remove the tire change kit. Will be living full time in the van in about a year (retiring) and want to travel North America, so space is a premium.

Thanks in advance.

Underseat is fairly common. I found this link a while back. It applies to 2009+ diesel Ducatos+, but it might be of some help. Also search this forum for tidbits.

Yes @MsNomer ,,, I mentioned serviceability.

I won’t pretend I even know what the serviceability would be like under the passenger seat, because I don’t.

My serviceability comment is referenced in regards to the entire system & easy access to it. I know where the aux gasoline fuel pickup is & I know where the passenger seat is, but I do not know about the wiring, fuel lines, or the dose pump locations & if they are a PITA.

I do know about performing work on aircraft, on my back in tight spaces while being contorted in different directions & that has my big frame complaining about the design engineers & needing massage therapy.

@SteveSS has factory swivels so he does not get an under passenger seat choice, but he is experienced with the serviceability equation & I wonder if he had the choice, would he go under seat with his heater?

With my building experience, & knowing I will be doing the maintainance, the easy of the installation & serviceability are huge factors to my designs.
