Now that is cool. Before I had my Promaster’s, I had a pickup and tent camped. My son and I would put a large oversized tarp over our tent. And sometimes over the pickup truck and tent. I also wondered how an oversized tarp placed over the van would help when stationary camping in winter. You got me thinking again.
Would be nice in summer too. Help keep van cooler and work as an awning maybe too.

There is so much I love about my build but as I'm currently on it's maiden voyage I haven't had time to experience the ups or downs of the design. I did install tiltable panels but haven't utilized the feature yet to determine if it's worth the effort getting the ladder out etc. and won't be doing so this trip.
So what I have appreciated is simple. A soft underfoot washable rug. It's pretty and I can roll it up if in muddy or sandy environment. I also like the dimmable lights, the swivel seats. So basic but make the experience a bit nicer.
I like that the plywood for my bed is in 3 sections and the mattress trifold so I can remove a panel of plywood to have a bit more headspace for accessing electrical/plumbing under the bed. I have a medium roof so my bed isn't as high as can be with a high roof.

Hi Kayte, you have done so much which you should be proud of. So if I could pick one thing for you, from all, it would your use of space. I also use removable washable rugs because of the sand. My dog Ghost loves the beach so much. The higher the waves the more he Loves to jump through them. If to high and undercurrent in Lake Michigan we do put our life vests on. Usually the only ones out there. 😆

Hello baitbegger 44. I love it when people take simplicity to the next higher level. Small air conditioners like yours have been used in trailers, camping and construction, even food trailers for years. You still see the food trailers use them at the beaches. So why not. I may do the same, Excellent use of your back door. And I am currently thinking of putting a Comfy Glow, direct vent, 8000 unit on the inside of the rear door. The wall vent will be outside. Propane tank may be stored, in plastic Garbage can out back on cargo carrier. Flexible heavy duty rubber gas hose quick Connect at Storage garbage can, so I can open the door. The one on right for dirty wet clothes, the one on left for grill charcoal etc.

Our kitchen counter was the most complicated bit on our build. The Propex heater is underneath and there is a big drawer for the Engel fridge plus two more custom drawers for pots and utensils. I built the counter top out of some walnut and there's a sink and a stove/oven. Most of our electrical system runs through it and propane runs to the Propex and stove. Add a sink drain and the Propex intake and exhaust tubes and there isn't much unclaimed space inside. I didn't make traditional cabinets but instead built basically a big box. The counter top is bolted to the van horizontal rib at the back to keep that heavy wood in place.

Hi Roach, you got all that in that space with pullout vertical and horizontal drawers. Whistle, Whistle, A big box Not. This is definitely a Master Piece. Love the counter top also. The circle drawer handles give it class. Cook top with three burners? In my younger days in powerlifting “Go big or go home” 😝.
PS I have been thinking about your stuffed animal roach. Do you move it around like an Elf on a Shelf?

Very nice, indeed. The kind of thing that makes you think, “I did that,” with a smile.
I know that feeling. Even though mine doesn't look as pretty as Roach's and I used scrap lumber where I could so there's a mix match of wood and I used wood drawer runners to keep weight and cost down etc, etc, my build worked out and so far seems very functional. And yep, I did it myself. Smile...

i like the look of mixed match wood. It’s creativity, an art. Your personal style.

Thanks! I never saw that mirror as a porthole until now! It was just a practical Command Strip find, light-weight and unbreakable.
Steve, I Just got back from a trip dog watching my son’s dog. I thought I would share why I thought that was a port hole mirror. On our honeymoon in 1992 we got this fish mirror. I made an over the John cabinet. On opposite side I made the medicine cabinet with a porthole mirror. I used a round mirror from a old makeup mirror and found the ring from an old gas stove.

Van life is all about maximizing space, and my Trap Door Bed Mod does just that—turning your wet bath into a hidden extension of your sleeping area! Here’s how it works:

✅ The Concept: The factory bed in the Thor Sequence/Tellaro (and many other vans) is often just a bit too short for taller folks—or for anyone who likes to stretch out at night. Instead of compromising, I unlocked extra sleeping space by utilizing the area inside the wet bath.

✅ How It Works:

🔹 I installed a marine-grade waterproof hatch in the bathroom wall that faces the bed. This “trap door” is durable, sealed, and designed to handle moisture.

🔹 When it’s time for bed, simply flip open the hatch—now your bed can extend into the bathroom, giving you much-needed extra length!

🔹 The bed extension panel sits on top of a support frame inside the bathroom, ensuring a solid sleeping platform.

✅ Why It’s a Game-Changer:

🔹 Instantly gains a second aisle way and 12+ inches of sleeping space.

🔹 Keeps the van’s interior sleek—no bulky slide-outs or folding mattress tricks.

🔹 The waterproof hatch keeps everything sealed when not in use.

🔹 Makes a small van feel BIGGER where it matters most—your comfort!

This mod was a game-changer for me, and I no longer needed to purchase an EKKO. 😀
