Looks good. I always thought about getting a bunch of magnetic decals with faux-business logos so I would blend in more. For example, Steamboat, CO is very strict about no-overnight parking, but are they really going to do anything about Joe's Solar, Inc. van? For ski areas where you can't park in the parking lot, will they be more lenient toward the Rosignol van (not Rossignol!)?

I also thought about getting custom perforated window decals for the back of the van. Those are the ones that look like an image from a distance but you can see through up close. Anyone seen those on a conversion?

BTW, both vans decals look good.

 

@phil, the white on the back looks good. Must be the same stuff they use (or used in the 70's) across the desert SW in the rear windows of pickup trucks - to cut down on heat infiltration but still allow you to see out.

 

I am now feeling a little bad that VanGoe is just a plain white canvas!

Perhaps one of a picture of a turbo placed over the hood would make the van appear faster? I like that idea!

 

Do decals just peel on and off? Curious how permanent the installation is for something like this.

 

I like the idea of a commercial name decal. Was thinking of having one made at a vehicle sign store. Again, just want to blend in. Same thought as not being bothered if I'm overnight at a business.
Do any of the decals offer company decals? Or if you send them a gif or jpg of a company name, would they blow it up - and still look sharp?
Was thinking of something like Quest Diagnostics - maybe folks would think there's just urine or tainted blood inside?

Seriously I knew a guy who had to park often in the commercial section near the food distribution businesses in NY and sleep in his panel truck. He had a giant cabbage painted on both sides w/appropriate grower fictitious name. Never was bothered.

 

I bought my last van from a dry cleaning business. Fox dry cleaning business. My last name is Fox. It came with all the Fox decals, I left them on. I don't really think the decals made me any less immune to getting a midnight knock though.

 

I also liked the look of Phil’s “whited out” windows... so much so that I applied perforated white vinyl on my sliding door and rear door windows.

I normally use my rear window Reflectix window shades for privacy, but the privacy effect of the vinyl allows me to remove those so the net effect is no decrease in ambient light inside. I’ll be unable to comment on the cooling effect of the white vinyl covers until summer returns.

 

Phranc - would you mind sharing the brand you used for your perforated vinyl?

I purchased the 54”x120” roll of VViViD (owned by 3M) from Amazon... here’s the link: White VViViD 54x120 Roll

Given the dimensions of the windows, a 5ft roll of 54” vinyl wasn’t enough... so I purchased the 10ft roll so I’d have extra if I messed up... the VViViD vinyl was easy to work with and I had no problem installing it alone.

These felt covered squeegies really made the application go smoothly without tearing or gouging the vinyl.

Boondocked a few weeks ago in the National Forest and a white Transit pulled in, which forced my hand on getting my decal ordered. Somehow it just looked strange for two white vans to be in the middle of the woods. Now, mine clearly says "camper van!" I worked w/ a local design company to put together something simple and customize it a little. It's 18 x 48". Overall pleased w/ it - we'll see how it holds up. A friend tells me the deer should've butt up against the left edge of the door? Door is 55" so I just told them to center it and ground it against the trim. For me, the deer simply represents all things wildlife. Can't overthink these things... I did all that on the build.

On my first van, I put a random selection of those magnetic refrigerator poetry words. I would park at the trailhead and go climbing, and see what people had arranged them as when I came back.

It would be kind of neat if those came in "van sized.".....
