2014 136 lowboy. 85,000km.
Rad replaced last summer, no problem.
Smell back again.
Dealer, will replace again, no problem.
Drive her in, -30C, she's a 90 min drive.
They discover, this time it's not the rad, it's the thermostat housing!
They tell me that replacing the housing, will take more time, than replacing the rad?
Will keep you informed.
Still love her!

Got the Skinny

After being at Four dealerships in my area I think I found a good one.

I have had the coolant smell since I bought my van.

I was told Tuesday nigh when I dropped my van off to have it checked for a coolant leak that it's the thermostat that sticks and causes too much pressure build up and then the radiator splits.

I got a new radiator at 35789 miles.

I hope this helps you all, I've been following this since the first post. Thank you all for the great detective work.

rad leak

Update.
It's leaking again.
Same spot as before.
It is more a seep than an actual leak.
Nothing visible on the ground.
Rad level goes down about a pint every 3 to 4 months.
Its the seam on the bottom of the rad.
It's a manufacturing flaw!
Was replaced under warranty, as was the thermostat housing and the hoses.
Now, as it is out of warranty, its my turn to pay.
Not happy, told them immediately after it was replaced the smell was still there.
Going to replace with an aftermarket rad.
Other than this, I still love the vehicle!

Save all receipts and report low coolant to your dealer. This is a closed system and should not be losing coolant. If FCA has the same problem that GM had when they started using an oat coolant and lost a class action you may be reimbursed. GM said the pressure relief caps were rusting in the open position. Can't remember all details but it should be searchable.

I have the coolant smell and finally the reservoir is low. There is never any drips on the ground and I could never find any wet areas. I'll take a look under at the radiator seam as one of you mentioned. It's a 14' so I guess it's out of pocket for a new radiator if that's the problem. I have no problem doing the work. Hopefully there are some good aftermarket options.

Mine has had the radiator replaced under warranty, but now the reservoir is getting low once a week so will have to inspect it soon.
My power steering is leaking though, I see the oil stains and colored spots in the rain soaked road/parking lot but never see the drips actually falling.

Have the dealer service dept run your VIN to check for TSBs.
My 2014 was eligible for the coolant leak TSB.
Cost was zero out of pocket for new radiator (still smell coolant and looses it too), and a thermostat and or housing.
Check you VIN, maybe the TSB pertains to your van too.

I'm a little confused as I always have thought that it is the pressure cap that regulates the cooling system pressure. I think it basically releases coolant when the pressure exceeds a set maximum (somewhere around 15 psi).

Yep, the whole thermostat blowing the radiator from pressure was BS was told from someone who had no clue and needed to sound like they new what they were talking about.
