FINAL UPDATE I HOPE:
10/15/23
Tech support is difficult because of time zone and language but they seem to have finally come through.

I purchased from Amazon an 8GB/64GB with sim card unit. Not sure those are still available.

Out of the box everything worked except that B/U Camera but a setting I mention later fixed it.
The ODO was flashing and during Tech Supports attempts to fix that, they somehow broke the Android system.
The final update done today seems to have everything fixed except I no longer get a HORN BEEP when locking with the remote..

The MP3 player is a bit primitive in that in shuffle it wants to play EVERY song on the USB drive in the aux usb. This can be annoying if you want to play a specific genre of music from the USB.
YMMV Enjoy
-----------------------------------------------------

Ok. Took a deep dive through the past posts and it looks like it has been about 6 months since the last run on this.

Also searched multiple ways via Google.

Found this https://www.ebay.com/itm/354700085399?hash=item5295c5c897:g:hDcAAOSwJENkLqDN and it looks very promising.

The write up makes it look like it is plug and play.

Same company has what look like complete kits for BMW and Jeep and the Ram P/U's listed on Amazon and the reviews seem good.

But as with a lot of the EBAY sellers,, trying to make contact to verify a couple questions isn't working very well.

Can someone that has fought through an installation take a look at the list of parts in this kit and give some feed back on if it looks complete?

Thanks

I highly recommend Crutchfield. A extremely reputable company where they will also customize a wiring harness for the promaster. I lost no steering wheel controls. I’m so far from being an electrician but my head unit was super easy to install. Their customer service is top notch. Put it this way, I bought a receiver from them 15yrs ago and they recently contacted me to tell me there’s a recall and offered me a new unit.

I purchased the XISEDO 9 for my van (replacing flaky ATOTO radio/Axxess canbus adapter) and it is, well, plug and play. No real install instructions but after a few minutes looking at the connectors, I plugged it in, turned the key, and it booted. Steering wheel keys all work. Odometer no longer flashes. FAR LESS WIRING than the "roll your own" system. So far X connections: The big plug, radio, USB, microphone and GPS antenna (

The only glitch, so far, is that the bezel does not snap into the dash. I am hoping for some guidance from XISEDO on that.

The CAN bus adapter can configure the car (door lock behavior, DRL, Sense open doors (has a display showing car status), set the time on the dash/sync to GPS.

I have yet to figure out how to connect my OBD2 adapter to the unit where it appears it can display a bunch of data (oil temp?)

Now to figure out the bezel.

So far: two thumbs up.

Technical aside: The OEM camera has a differential video output. The documentation for the vehicle connector shows "video +" and "video ground" but that is a lie. It is really Video + and Video - (the differential). That sort of interfaces with the radio, but you will notice that when you apply brakes "noise" appears in the video screen - that is the PWM for the brake lights generating noise on the video ground (12v return).

PAC Audio sells a little "video filter" ($20) that is in fact a differential to single end adapter and works GREAT: better picture (more saturation) and no noise. The adapter has yellow RCA in, yellow RCA out + power/ground. I wasn't sure how XSIEDO wired the RCA jacks: The big connector to the vehicle has the two video signals which my previous setup brought out to the center & shield of the RCA jack and the video adapter plugged in-between. Anyway, I was done fiddling around, so I never installed it. Maybe that will be my project later this week. :)

I'll report if it helps.

The video filter didn't work/help. In looking at the video on the screen the brake lights don't introduce noise, so I am guessing the radio must have the differential->single end build in.

BTW the simple way to set the proper video type is to press on the screen and hold until the rear-view camera settings are displayed. Then touch the car on the left and the video type selection comes up. No need to fuss with factory settings.

What canbus adapter do you have?

I installed an XISEDO head unit with built in adapter and they don't have Promaster, but Doble and Fiat 500 works pretty well. The steering wheel controls are mediated through the CAN interface and are completely reliable (voice doesn't work since it is hard coded to a Chinese interface - I've asked for it to be configurable to Google voice but no response)

The OEM camera has a differential digital signal and requires a special interface to reconstruct the classic analog signal. The noise you see is precisely the stuff the differential technique filters out. Anyway, this device does the work, but I was not able to make it work properly on the XISEDO radio; it worked great on an ATOTO (piece of ....) radio.

Ok, terrible deal.it’s not plug and play either and twice the price fro the one on Amazon. You do need a power adaptor to plug into the Promaster wire harness then to have to connect the wires from the radio to the adaptor. Not difficult they are color coder. I believe the adapter is about $25/$30 from Amazon. The only other thing you need is an adaptor for they Promaster bu camera but I would suggest spending $35 and get a far better camera also. Steering wheel controls do not work without a $20 adaptor either. It’s not a difficult job at all and there are lots of "helpers" her. I happen to be extremely busy for the next 2 weeks and can only offer advice.
Do not but that one from eBay. You can get the same unit probably from Aliexpress for under $200 including free shipping!

As I wrote in my original, I was not able to find the same one on Amazon. Jeep, BMW, Ram P/U's but not for the Promaster.
I did find the same one (or very, very similar) on Ali Express but it looked like 6 weeks delivery time.
I expected to have to splice some wires.
Links to the adapters would be helpful.

That’s strange I was just looking at it on Amazon - delivery on August 7th!
Here is the connector don’t pay any attention to the description it works fine on my ‘20.

This on Amazon is not the same as the one on EBAY>>> https://www.amazon.com/XISEDO-ProMa...WG/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=XISEDO+Promaster&qid=1691021894&s=automotive&sr=1-1&th=1 >>>>

In spite of what they say all these are generic units. Some come with trim for a specific vehicle but that is all. The one I have is only about an inch thick it doesn’t not even really go into the dash but sits on the front of it.
Just to confuse you more here are a bunch on Aliexpress that would work. I don’t think you really want an in dash unit as they are quite small <7" but the 10" one is perfect.

You are right. 7 inch wouldn't be enough to justify the work. 10+ would be nice, but from the videos getting the steering wheel controls to work and the dash to stop blinking can be a major pain what with getting software for a computer to reprogram the head and such.
9 inch as the one I am looking at will be a nice boost.

The steering wheel controls can easily be solved by a $20 add on botton(s). I don’t know of a solution to the flashing odometer but mine has been flashing for almost 2 years and I forgot about it a long, long time ago. There is no real connection to the vans computer to make these radios work.

Oops I misread the price I thought it was $399 but at $339 it is good for a 9” screen but if you read the fine print it says “
Compatible with most of ELM327 OBD2 dongles WIth the OBD2 dongle, the real-time data of the car is under
ontrol. Please note, the OBD2 adapter is not included”
not exactly sure what that means but I suspect it means it’s not a complete package and is non-returnable another red flag for me at least!
I don’t think it really is a Maestro type but who knows for the price it’s ok I guess.

Maybe I need to get a better understanding of what "Maestro" is..

Who ever sent the last Amazon link, that IS NOT for a Promaster. That unit is for a generic " Ram pickup truck".

Unless I missed it, Pioneer only makes Android Auto/iPhone CarPlay compatable heads. Not stand alone Android heads that can connect to the Google play store and download stand alone apps.

Maestro is an interface that allows the radio head to interact with the vehicle systems exactly as the OEM head did. For Promaster vans, that allows the radio head to access the trip counters, set the dashboard clock, and set certain parameters of the system (e.g. automatic locking). Without the Maestro interface the van will complain that it cannot talk to the radio, and you get things like the blinking dash.

I am an old PC gamer player and there have long been applications that allowed us to "reprogram" keys on the keyboard, or joystick.
Or to add other external inputs and bind them to keys.
I have also found a couple android apps that have allowed me to change the functions of buttons on my Samsung TabS3 and it has maxed out right now at Android 9.
I have read that higher versions on Android have the ability to have external key pads plugged in through the USB port and programmed.
That android head I put in the Transit Connect has a section in it's setting where I could select from a long list of vehicles and it would supposedly connect to external controls if they were available.
To me it seems reasonable therefore that this device maker could already have an app in settings or might have actually designed in the presets since on their EBAY site they list other heads with CANBUS connectors and say they are for specific model years of specific vehicles. Notably BMW'S, TOYOTA'S, JEEPS, but there are others.
Even if it doesn't work in the dash, I can put it in the back (or here is a brainstorm, make it flip up where that useless clipboard is) as part of my camper conversion as an infotainment centre for music and such and use it with bluetooth to monitor and control things like my solar system.
Humnnnn.

But… is the built in steering wheel controller app analog or digital? I have the same screen but all of these appear to be analog and you need digital to make them work on a Promaster (thus the maestro type adaptor) I used the $20 analog buttons proeddie discovered on mine and the work flawlessly.

You only get what you pay for (sometimes) if you’re lucky.🤫

Ok..
It is essentially "plug and play" except that the OEM B/U camera gives a "NO SIGNAL" message. I suspect that the power to the camera isn't correct in the supplied plug. Planning to trouble shoot later.
The MILAGE is flashing. Probably because the unit doesn't have the "TRIP" functions.
I had to do a bit of jiggering to secure it in the dash since the clips that are on it don't clip to anything. I used small hook end bungees through the some holes in the clips to pull it snug into the hole.
The "curve of the unit trim doesn't exactly match the curve of the dash, but unless you know, you won't notice.,
All the steering wheel buttons work as original.

I am giving it 4 Stars on Amazon.

Flashing ODO means that the van doesn't recognize the CAN bus unit interfacing to the radio. It can also mean other, similar errors. For example, on my van the CAN bus adapter spoofs being a Uconnect, but recently, after some fiddling around, I broke it and now the ODO flashes. Everything else works, but the error code "infotainment unit not present" comes up as the reason.

Typical Android units have analog steering wheel control inputs (and they suck). The CAN bus adapter is where the digital to analog occurs. It is encouraging that your radio works out-of-the-box with the oem steering wheel controls.

The OEM rear camera has a differential video signal and on most generic Android radios you need a converter between the vehicle connector and the radio If there is an RCA jack for the video input, then the converter should clean up any issues. If not, then maybe the CAN bus adapter that came with your radio isn't working properly - they said "drop in compatible" so I assume they do the conversion in the interface.

The Odometer flashing doesn't bother me since I suspect it has more to do with the uConnect having the trip meter in it than anything else.
I can probably live without the B/U Camera but I would rather not.

All the steering wheel controls work as well or better than they did with the uConnect.. One oddity is that the "MUTE Button" is now actually a mute button and not a PAUSE BUTTON. I would prefer the Pause and will see if I can do a reprogram.

Thanks for the converter link. Will give that a try.

Didn't need the converter.

Ok, I have the B/U Camera working.
Here some video.
Android Head

Once I found the correct Camera setting, it is truly "Plug and Play"
Fantastic that an Android radio provider has integrated all the pieces. It really sucked how much time I put into getting all the parts playing well with each other not to mention soldering the harnesses, etc.

Did u figure out the flashing odometer?
