Install in mostly finished! I ended up not using the turret due to space constraints, but used plywood and silicone to seal the metal plate to the floor. I’ll check the plywood after a few uses, but it should work nicely. Also installing a CO detector. I still want to go back and put high temp silicone from the bottom to fully weather proof the intake/exhaust outlets in the bottom, mount the wire behind the control panel, and I need to wrap the fuel line with a heatproof tape as it gets a little close to the exhaust on the heater. Fortunately the heater fired up after proper priming, It did throw an error 7 code, and I had to adjust the angle of the fuel pump and straighten out the fuel line, but then ran for an hour without issue. No leaks from the fuel line connectors, and I tested it at 5280ft with the fuel pump quick disconnect and it ran fine. I will test it soon enough at 8-10k elevation and if it has a fueling problem, I will install the included fuel pipe. After some reading on this page I decided to not install the fuel filter.

Actually cutting and installing the heater took the longest, the rest was just a case of bolting things in and attaching them underneath in such a way where they don’t touch. I installed it in literally the hardest to install place, but it’s working out.

Thanks for all the help in the past few weeks folks!

Questions:

Can I install a turret mount directly to a plywood floor?
That’s exactly what we did in our installation. We also put high temperature red RTV around the turret before inserting it into the hole.

Once it’s installed you need to RTV the other end of the turret collar as well.

It’s excellent that you have no leaks. Be sure to re-check those nylon-to-rubber clamps after a bit.

Does the Velit heater go on sale? It's not now. I assume due to winter is almost here. Maybe sale in the Spring?
We used a discount code MOTM for 50 dollars off. Not sure if that still works but if you ask for a code they will likely accomodate you.

Wasn’t feeling great about the sealing job I did, so I pulled the heater out this morning. I put 1200 degree rated heat-shield tape around the exhaust outlet, and then sealed the mount to the floor. I then used high temp gasket to seal the intake, exhaust, and fuel line holes on the bottom and finished up using the same tape to protect the full line where it gets pretty near the heater exhaust. Going to wait for it to dry for a few days before retesting it, but it should be fine.

How does your Velit gets return air in that box? Do you have a grill in the vertical wall?

You can’t really see, but when the lid is installed there is a pretty good sized gap between where the factory seat bulkhead ends and where the lid begins, about an inch all the way across the top. I have not run the heater with the lid on the box, but I’m not worried about it.

Teethandnails, where might we get a pump hanger like this beauty?

Below is the link to their replacement parts. I don’t see the mount specifically in their parts page below, so you may need to call them.

At 10,700ft this morning. Using the quick disconnect to the fuel pump, and not the stand pipe. The heater fired up, the fuel pump is pumping fuel, but the heater seems to not be getting hot, but not freezing either. You can hear the exhaust going. Then it threw Error: 01. I reset the heater, at that point my GF walked outside the van and you could smell unburnt fuel, pretty strong smell. Thoughts?

Ok, after resetting the heater, I fired it up again and it’s pumping hot air into the van! Not sure why it took two goes, maybe due to the higher altitude it needed a minute to adjust. For reference my house is at 5280ft, and I’ve started the heater 5 times with issue in the past week.

Depending on your setup ,,, if you have voltage sag & the glow plug is just not getting enough 12vdc, If you have a way to increase your system voltage ( like running your engine & DC2DC charger ) getting the system voltage up to 14v then that might be able to get your glow plug past the “ignition” start up stage ,,, but this is a wild guess on my part with my limited Diesel heater experiences ,,, Not Velit.

If you can’t get past the ignition stage;

Igniter power issues ( 12v sag )
Fuel delivery issues ( air in line & etc )

I appreciate the “Reports @teethandnails ,,, the Velit is newish on the market & the more “Beta Testers / Reporters” the more it helps those decide on a heater. 👍

BTW ,,, Thicker & shorter 12vdc circuits reduce voltage sag if you are experiencing any of that.

After the initial start up failure, and it started again just fine, and ran all day. Outside temp was 35 and the can was at 70 when we hopped back in. I’ll keep an eye on the voltage coming from the battery next time. I had driven 2 hours and the 100amp hr lithium should have been topped off. Thanks for the advice.
