I used 3M high strength double sided tape. One channel is already coming off. Taped to painted wall panel. Is there a better tape to use?

Surface prep is the key. Clean it with alcohol. Apply above 60degF, the warmer the better. I use a heatgun sometimes.
VHB foam tape is strong stuff and the foam helps absorb surface imperfections for a greater surface area bond. Available in various widths and thicknesses.

There are a bunch of "VHB" products. Cleaning and applying pressure to make the bond are common.
Is VHB available at the common big box stores. I remember not being able to find it at the orange and blue stores; saw lots of Gorilla products instead. (I'm in Canada.)
And the Gorilla stuff has lots of nice-sounding claims but no real specs like the above-mentioned 30 lbs / inch, so one is not really sure how good it is.
