Google_____50 amp to 120 volt rv adapter_____ Lots of choices on Amazon.

I don't think I've ever seen a campground that ONLY had a 50a receptacle. There's usually also a 30a (and a 15a (120v) too). Our van has a 30a male twistlock plug. I carry a 30a female twistlock to 15a (120v) male adapter so that I can just use a 15a extension cord as it's easier to handle than a 30a cord.

I did find one pedestal that the 15a (120v) receptacle was either not functional OR was so filled with bugs that it didn't work. I resorted to a 30a extension cord. Unless we need air-con we seldom plug in. ---KenA

edit: 15a = (120v)
I'm going to a campground tomorrow which has only 50A and 15A receptacles. The last time I was there, I used the 15A because I did not have a 50A to 30A adapter. Now, I do so I'll use it.

Hi,

We are new to the van life adventure and I need some advice on using shore power. We have a 15 amp van. We have successfully plugged into a 30 amp shore power source but are trying to be prepared for plugging into a 50 amp source. What do you recommend? I am not finding a product that has a 50 amp male to a 15 amp female.

Thanks for you advice.

Allison
Well, I have a 50A to 30A adapter and a 30A to 15A adapter. In your situation, I could plug them together. Fortunately, I run on 30A so it isn't necessary. In any case, you should have a surge protector between the cable from your van and the power source. They don't cost much and will protect your van. Tomorrow, I'm going to plug the surge protector into the 50A to 30A adapter and then plug my van into the surge protector. It is a whole lot cheaper to replace an adapter or surge protector than your van's electrical system.

Oops, my 30A to 15A goes in the opposite direction to what you need. I hope you can find a 30 amp male to 15 amp female.
