I ordered my van in mid July, and I still haven't got a VIN number yet. My dealer hasn't been able to provide any information on production dates. I don't have any firsthand information on production or delivery to Canada but from what I can tell Canadian vans seem to be last priority in the production line.

In addition to the shutdown in January/February, I also read that they hope to be finished with the 2022 production in April. So I'm hoping that even if my van is the last off the production line, it will be shipping out at the end of April.

 

… also, fyi - Chrysler Canada have a memo posted online that states the cut off for 2021 Promaster Vans orders was December 2020 (they go on to state that they will not guarantee delivery orders after December 2020). Did your dealership inform you of the cut off date? My dealership didn’t. I did however notice the company sales board chart. I had my sale recorded towards their monthly goal.

I couldn’t agree with you more. We are not a priority in Canada. They have absolutely abandon the Canadian market. Amazon has once again bought up the production for 2022 with the new electrical 2023 Promaster version, switch undoubtedly will start production early 2022. I’ve committed to converting a Promaster into a Camper Van, so I’m stuck at this point. That being said I wouldn’t be surprised if Promaster Vans in Canada go the way of Indian Motor Cycles in our market place. Deservedly so. The most frustrating aspect are the dealerships who knowingly tell customers 18-24 weeks for delivery - when the same dealerships had orders on the books
8-12 months over due. Shameless.

I think you are spot on. It is a supply & demand world. Hang in there with your original “locked in price” order. By the time your van gets to Canada it will probably be worth more than you pay for it. Don’t let them knock you off your deal by wait time & frustration. I do not see the costs of these vans plummeting in 2022.

I picked up my van today, almost 1 year from ordering it at the end of January 2021. 😳

I suppose the question is are PMs that are custom ordered in other countries get delivered to their customers (Not Amazon - but small order customers like us) constantly quicker? & if so why? The answers could be as simple as “yes” & “you don’t rate”.

I believe (at least when I purchased) PMs are a decent price for what ya get & depending upon intended use. Big volume for a camper van & pretty easy to build on the floor, walls, & ceiling. In snow I think I would prefer a 4x4 Mercedes (same for “off asphalt running”). If Ram increases their prices & wait times then customers will start looking elsewhere.

Don’t kid yourself - It is business - It is always about the money !!

Thanks for the positive thoughts - lots of time to plan and get materials. I also chose the PM for the room, roof line, front wheel drive. I stayed away from the Sprinter mainly because of price but also rust. In Canada you constantly see 3-4 year old Sprinters beginning to rust. A friend of mine has one for work. It’s started to rust considerably this year (year 3). Regardless, there has been some good elements to waiting. I’m sitting in a house full of build material ready to go! Cheers 🍻

 

@VanLife Canada 🇨🇦 My dealer did mention that I would likely be getting a '22 model when I ordered in July. But they did tell me that the lead time was 6 months to 1 year, so I did anticipate to be waiting this long. I will be converting mine as well, and it's tough to secure a spot with a van builder when you have no idea when your van will be ready.

 

It sounds like we’ll both be getting our Van around the same time. Lots of great builders on the West Coast. I had my electrical system built by a company just outside of Vancouver - they did a fantastic job! Good luck with your build 😀

 

Still waiting? I have been waiting a year and my van has not been started yet.
