Greetings, all!

Does anyone know where Dodge moved the security gateway to on the 2020 Promaster? I know the 2019 had it to the left of the steering column, but I couldn't find it in that spot or anywhere in that general vicinity on the vehicle I was working on yesterday.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The SGW was implemented in some models in the 2018 model year and all models 2019 going forward. The SGW in short is a module whose function is simply to keep the communication networks secure. The SGW protects the vehicle networks from being exploited by creating a firewall between two portions of the network with the most vulnerability. These are the telematics/radio units and the DLC.

I have a 2018. How can I tell if my model is one of those that got it? Does someone have a picture?
Are there any issues with it? Anything to watch out for?

From what I understand if your not using something like Alfaobd you won't know it's there.
Can't find any photos.

Yes, with the SGW installed, it prevent user to use app like Alfaobd. The dealer can bypass the SGW to adjust the computer parameters. From what i was told, 2018 doesn't have SGW. I ordered a yellow obd cord, and still need to go to the dealer to get the code. I'm hoping it doesn't have SGW since i want to adjust the comp parameter(tire pressure, horn, etc) without paying the dealer do it.
Our promaster is pretty old tech, i doubt hacker can really do much. Unlike a lot of new cars where they have assisted braking/steering/cruise control, etc.

So, what do I ask the dealer for?

Just say....I want my PIN Code?
I don't know if I have the exact terminology correct or the correct amount of digits, all info is from the parts counter guy.
your results may vary
Went to RAM dealer #2 to verify RAM dealer #1 miss information.

  • Key code/PIN is 5 digits and used to program the keys, it is also the number I used in the ALFAOBD app to access the BCM.
  • Mechanical Code is (at least mine is) 2 letters and 5 digits, XX12345, this is used to cut the key pattern.
  • Radio Code is 4 digits, oddly enough dealer #2's computer returned no results, he guessing it's because they are not certified to work on Promasters, they can't even change the oil.

They're required to verify the info. I used vehicle registration and DL.

If you registration match your DL use that instead. When I got mine, they told me to bring my DL and registration.

Been writing with the support for Alfa OBD over in this thread here. Seems my 2019 might have a SGW but I was able to program a bunch of features using Alfa although I am not able to login with the key code provided by dealer. If the SGW is behind the glove box as noted above has anyone figured out how to install a bypass OR where to connect a bypass cable like this one brute force bypass cable ?

Anyone here with a 2019 or newer work on bypass of the SGW yet?
Noted that while my 2019 (born 11-2018) seems to have a SGW I have been able to use Alfa OBD to adjust many Body Computer functions, however I am not able to login with my key code for key programming and such. As per Alfa support it appears SGW is blocking this.

Seems there are temp bypass cables and perm install bypass cables. Guess they both connect into can bus.

Brute Force Cable connection videos I was just seeing

connection to other RAM into STAR connector, not sure if Promaster would be same but report above of SGW behind glove box matches

2018 Doge Journey, connection near gas pedal

I tore down whole dash looking for this sucker. Finally found it behind the Glove box, felt so stupid. Maybe others can benefit from it.
