Removing Rear Windows

Hi all,

Not a PM owner myself yet; have sort of a strange question that factors into my decision.

For all 2017 PM owners that have the rear stock windows, are the windows designed in a way that allow them to be easily "unbolted" and removed without modification/damage? I'm trying to see if I can fit a small AC in one of the windows, but still keep the stock windows in the garage and "bolt" them back on such that the van loses no resell value if I need to part with it (hopefully not :crying:) in the future.

Regarding backing up, I plan on buying a backup camera, so I'm not (too) worried about losing some manual visibility.

Bonus points if anyone has detailed pictures showing how they might go about removing the stock rear windows without major, permanent modifications.

The windows are glued in, so removing them is possible. You may be better off finding a windowless driver's side door at junkyard, set it up for the AC and swap the door back when/if you resell it. The window cutout is going to be far larger than you need for an AC, and I doubt you could easily modify it without doing damage that would be visible if you decide to reinstall the window.

I have on a number of occasions thought about removing one of the glass windows (glass shop... easy) and, using the glass as a pattern, having a sheet metal shop make an identically shaped piece out of aluminum. The aluminum version would be discreetly bolted in and would have a cutout shaped to the size of a small home AC window unit.

When not on vacation, I would have a filler plate (or an opening window) that would fill the cutout, for day to day non-travel use.

Someday it may happen... but so far we haven't felt like we needed AC on our camping trips... even in FL, the van is comfortable with the Maxxair at night.
