I did an oil change after buying a van with 9k miles on it. I found that it only took about 5.5 qts with filter and was still just above the “checkered” area on the dipstick. I believe owners manual calls for 6 qts.
Now after taking it to have oil changed at Walmart (I’m on a road trip in Alaska) it comes back showing well above the correct fill area on the dipstick. I spoke with the tech when getting the keys back and he said he put 6 quarts in. I’m assuming he going by what the “book” tells him.
I’ve drained 500ml and it’s still a little high but roughly where it was when I changed it before. About 1/4” above the “checkered area” on dipstick.
Anyone run into this? I don’t want to drain another 500ml and put it within the dipstick range as then I’m at a 5 qts oil change which is well bellow the 6 qts it calls for. Either my dipstick is long (it appears to be the stock dipstick??) or something else is going on.
Any thoughts?
