I purchased my 2018 Promaster 2500 new the end of March 2018.

At 750 miles my dashboard lights up stating that I need "Service ABS, Service ESC, Service Hill Hold Assist". Needless to say I'm not enthused. I bring the van in, they replace the passenger side Hub Assembly and Wheel Speed Sensor. This all happens during a snow storm and I'm out the use of my new van for approximately a week.

This week, I'm at approx 6200 miles at the dashboard lights up again. I get on the phone with my dealership here in Colorado today July 19th. I'm told that the earliest they can fit the van in to examine it is August 2nd. Nothing can be done before. So now I'm expected to drive my van for 2 weeks before they can see what's happening....order parts and probably be out another week again. No offer of bumping it up to check it out, no offer of a loaner vehicle. Upon asking if a loaner is possible even on the Aug 2nd appointment they said "I'll do my best, but can't promise anything".

Needless to say this is unacceptable with a new vehicle. Sure I'm still under warranty and in fact have an extended warranty, but that is far from the point. Not only venting a bit but also looking to see if anyone has had similar...

Has anyone else had similar issues with ABS/ESC/Hill Hold?

Similar unwillingness to help with a brand new vehicle off the lot?

It's a bummer to be 6k miles into a new vehicle and feel like I can't continue my build and sink more money, time or put any more holes in the rig as it's POS that I'm going to have warranty issues with...

Any advice is very welcome! Thanks!
I just took my 2020 promaster to the dealership today with the hill assist and esc lights on and my diagnosis was a cracked flywheel and something to do with the transaxle. Hope this helps!

To update....my van was losing its mind. ESC, abs, brake light, speedo dropping to zero while driving, service hill holder. It was a Christmas tree of lights.

I added additional grounds from engine to chassis.... transmission to chassis, and trans to engine.

The factory ground between the engine and chassis is a joke. And it's right under a leak point from the cowl.

I've got a few thousand miles of error free driving.

How/where did you add the additional grounds. Thanks

Service ABS - ESC - Hill Hold Issue
I know it's an older thread, but it doesn't seem like a root cause has been determined and I'm now getting this (intermittently) after 121,000 miles. Some have suggested the steering angle sensor is the problem (I'll have to dig into this some more). Other threads point to a faulty ABS speed sensor on one or both of the rear wheels.

I borrowed a cheap OBD code reader from the parts store and got this strange code about a 'pump supply voltage' issue. I don't even know what pump connects to the ABS computer.

Hopefully I can get some help on a couple of questions;

1. Has anyone been able to use AlfaOBD to get into the ABS controller? If so, I've seen a screen that shows the speed on all of the ABS speed sensors and I'm hoping I can use that to find or rule out the speed sensor. I'm about to order the SW and HW later today.

2. Any more info on how to address this issue with a steering angle sensor repair?

Thanks. Now I've got to find the ABS module.. :rolleyes: Is it the located on the inside floor in front of the starting battery? I noticed a module there as I was checking / cleaning the ground terminal clamp and contact area (which didn't fix any it..). Water intrusion / corrosion is a very real possibility since I've recently arrived at a very humid coastal area that corrodes everything..

After reading lots of posts on this topic I've got it narrowed down to three good leads;
1. Bad speed sensor on one of the rear wheels (which is what I'm hoping AlfaOBD will help me diagnose when I get it).
2. Broken or cut brake pad wear sensing wire. (Checked the back two and are OK, need to check front ones)
3. Steering angle sensor out of whack, which I guess requires a trip to the dealer.

I'm hoping someone will chime in that I can access the sensors from the ABS computer on AlfaOBD.

Thanks! There is a big plug on the left side (as you face it, under the rubber cover) which I took out and inspected / cleaned up. Sadly, it didn't solve the issue, but at least now I know where the module is.

Does this mean that the factory warranty for the ESC system covers the first 50,000 miles? I have a similar issue with mine and the van has been at a dealership.I have been wondering if the factory warranty will cover the repair. Mine is three years old and has been driven a little over 18,000 miles.

Had the hill assist issue as well. Vehicle was in limp mode with the lightning bolt light on and the ESC light. Of course this was on the middle lane on the 5 South with LA morning traffic.

Vehicle had 49979 miles. I luckily had 21 miles left on the warranty. At first they replaced the throttle body. The van worked fine but on my way to work it went into limp mode again. They ordered a part which took two days. Replaced this time with the ECU and they did a test drive to make sure it was fine.

I'll get the actual part when I look at the paperwork again tonight. Apparently the parts work in sequence so it's difficult to diagnose between one or the other. Today I'm at 50500 miles and so far so good.

My 2017 Pro-master 1500 warranty is over with 50K miles on it. This speed sensor issue, ABS /Traction Control / Hill holder warning has been going on and off for a few years now. This Van sometimes sits for a week without use and then almost always has this warning at start up, but goes away after 50 miles. Seems to me high humidity causes this failure, and hard driving, or dry conditions fixes it. Well, I recently decided to dive into the problem because its been getting worse. I certainly don't trust a dealership to actually find the failure point before replacing high dollar parts.

After Finding the C003A-01 code I poked around the wires to the right rear, Pulled the sensor, cleaned it, along with the exciter ring, reassembled and drove it 200 miles, now the fault is on all the time. Ha, I made the situation worse. I then replaced the speed sensor and the problem still exists. Code is immediate after ignition turned on. Next Ill ohm some things out, including the brake pad sensor, (which I read here in the forum could be an issue) See what I can find.
TO BE CONTINUED..comments welcome.

Who would connect a stereo to the OBD port?. Well to continue my ABS situation, yesterday, I ohm'ed out the sensors and brake pads in the rear where the fault code showed, I checked left and right rear brake pads, are all good with an open circuit on both. The new speed sensor I installed on the right had a reading of 5.2 meg ohms, where the originals were 340 K ohms. I then reinstalled the old right rear speed sensor so that it match the left, now both at 340K ohms. Did an ohm check at the front of the van where it connects into a major plug under the hood left fender area. Readings were the same, 340k ohms. No bad wires to the front. Clearing the C003A-01 code, it still returns. I then decided to unplug the right rear speed sensor and then read the codes, the reader now showed left and right Electrical failure as expected. Erasing those 2 codes, it then successfully cleared them both. I now no longer have ABS failure lights. This to me is a software glitch. Purposely creating another fault, and then erasing all clears the original fault that was not going away? ha, now that's flipped out!

I have the same issue.. plus more and same experience trying to get out serviced...Bought my vehicle new at 29 miles. At 4k miles my auto braking light would come in as off. Every 2k it would turn itself off, even though I want the feature on. Even though it says it's off there will be times the warning will alert me to brake for no reason and someone's brake for no reason. I've gone to the dealer multiple times and they wouldn't find a code or a reason why it was doing that, and brush it off like nothing. every 2k miles out would turn off. Now after hitting over 40k miles I started to experience it more often where it would tell me brake. Now something at 49k miles. When I'm on a slight hill or high incline when my vehicle turns off and tries to start it will roll back and not move forward even when I apply the gas like the engine is still off. When that happens the SERVICE HILL HOLDER, and then multiple other safety features have warnings for, SERVICE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE, ACTIVE LANE MANAGEMENT UNAVAILABLE SERVICE REQUIRED, AUTO EMERGENCY BRAKING UNAVAILABLE SERVICE REQUIRED, STOP/START UNAVAILABLE SERVICE START/STOP SYSTEM. I told the dealer that had my car for a month at 49k miles about the hill holder and what my vehicle did. No results and still have this issue. When you turn off the vehicle the service lights disappear and can't be read. This happens almost every day now. I replaced my AUX battery after it seems to happen when my vehicle is off and struggled to turn back on at times and it still does it. I'm afraid that I'm going to get into an accident when people see I took my foot off the brake and will get rear ended or if my vehicle is going to brake itself and cause an accident or the other safely issue fail. The stability control can be an issue and drive mode I can't turn off or on those features when those notifications pop up. What can happen, will it eventually do this on a freeway and cause a major accident or when I'm through an intersection..5 different dealers and have no answer... They don't seem to type up the issues in the system and tell me I need to replace both of my batteries.. I tested my main battery it is fine and getting the needed voltage. I replaced the auxiliary battery just because.. the dealer said I need to replace the battery and should be fine.. but I started having the first issue at 4k miles so that means I needed a new battery off a vehicle I bought at 29 miles??? I feel like they don't know what's really wrong.. I dropped my vehicle off again telling them that when I'm on a slight incline or high one when my vehicle turns off and back on it tells me to service hill holder and all these other warnings come on as well... Shouldn't my vehicle not turn off at all on an incline... I am now getting auto/stop start unavailable and needs serviced... So if I end up replacing my battery and still have these issues.. Then what... Something needs to be done. It's under warranty and this problem needs to be fixed not brushed off

Any update on this from anyone? My van have me the same warning lights as soon as I drove off the dealers lot. Happens when a take a tight turn. Steering angle sensor was adjusted but problem still occured. Now it's been in shop for about 3 weeks and they say they are waiting for a ABS module. Surprised Chrysler doesn't have this part readily available. They said its backorderd or still being manufactured?!?

Rob
Hey Rob, how did you end up fixing this issue? What part was replaced, what labour was done? My dad (mechanic) has been stuck for a long time trying to fix this.

Van going to limp mode and ESC light came on, I have SAS sensor error (Missing message from SAS) in ABS Module and TCM says that Implausible data received from ABS and engine light is on, I have 2016 Ram Promaster 3.0 Diesel , Replacing the SAS sensor did not fix , Replacing ABS Module did not fix, What did you guys do to fix it?
