EDIT: This works for other carriers too, not just Visible Wireless.

For Mac users,
The steps I followed for MacOS El Capitan can be found here at post #10

Instructions for MacOS Monterey from @Lolaeliz can be found here at post #34

Original Post:

How to bypass bandwidth limits on your Windows PC/laptop when using Visible Wireless through a hotspot. This probably works for other carriers too besides Visible, so it would be great if folks could test it and report back. This would be very helpful info for the entire community.

It's a good idea to run a speed test using speedtest.net before you begin so you have a baseline. It should be about 5 Mbps down and up whenever your device is connected via your phone's hotspot on the Visible network. (Note: Without using hotspot, your phone directly will have results at around 10+ Mbps down and up.)

1) Run a command prompt as administrator by clicking on your WINDOWS button (aka the Start button) and type "cmd" from your keyboard. When you see COMMAND PROMPT in the list, right click on it, and select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

2) In the command prompt window, type in the following string shown below, and hit the ENTER key.
netsh int ipv4 set glob defaultcurhoplimit=65

NOTE: What you're doing is changing the TTL default value from 128 (PC) to 65 (mobile) to fool Visible's network into thinking your hotspot-connected device is a phone instead of a PC or a hotspot. You can change this back at any time, but otherwise it shouldn't negatively affect anything else you're doing if you were to leave it as is.

3) If you did everything right, it will respond with "ok." If you did something wrong, you'll see an eror like "the parameter is incorrect."

4) Run another speed test and you should see that your PC now gets the full bandwidth as if you were running the speed test directly from your mobile phone.

Paste these codes (make sure it's plain text format)

sudo sysctl net.inet.ip.ttl=65
sudo sysctl net.inet6.ip6.hlim=65

hit enter. It will ask for your password. Enter it slowly. I don't know why it has to bw donew slowly, but it seems to want it that way.
Hit enter.
You have to do this every time you fully shut down the computer (not when it just sleeps). I don't find that to be a problem. I just keep the codes on my desktop.
Well, i do exactly as you have said. However, my carrier still figure out that I'm using my hotspot and therefore deduct my data. Could you please tell me why? Or is it because of my macbook? I'm currently using macbook pro M2 with macos 12.4

@keeponvanning Yes, of course. I do apologize in advance for not being familiar with reading the rules, as I was excited and just wanted to show my gratitude. I just decided to join visible plus in order too take advantage of the unlimited hotspot for schooling. I was getting 10 mbbs down as advertised, but I was mainly looking for a way to do it on my Jetpack and hope they wont ban me instead of using my iphone 13 all the time for data. I somehow came across this post, after reading some mixed reviews on reddit, and youtube videos that weren't what I was looking for, I was desparate to find a good internet solution to my life. School is starting next month and il be needing a decent internet that will suffice to mainly that; zoom calls, online programming, etc.

Fast forward I came across this site, decided to try the code prompt to my windows 11 and voila, my internet speeds were as fast as my iphone's. Again, I'd like to extend my gratitude for this little hack. I will also try it with tmobile magenta max, after using the allotment of 40gb, slows you down to 600kbbp. I'll repot to you guys soon.

Still works.

However, on a PC the instructions in the original post only apply to ipv4. If your network adapter is using ipv6, you will either have to figure out the appropriate "netsh" command for ipv6, or do what I did and turn off ipv6 in the network adapter properties.

Go to "Settings" > "Network & Internet" > "Advanced Network Settings". Click on the "Network Adapter" you are using and it should show some details. Click on the "Edit" button next to "More adapter options" and it will show the "Properties" dialog of the network adapter (At least that's how you get there in my particular flavor of Windows 11 ... other versions of Windows may be different). Then uncheck the box next to "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and click "OK"

Still working the same as it ever was. Currently about 100-105mbps where I am with the "defaultcurhoplimit=65" fix and TCP/IPv6 switched off. Without the fixes a speed test starts with a burst then very quickly is throttled until the total speed over the test approaches 5mbps.

It's no longer working on my mac. 😢
I'm on a PC - Windows 11 ... can anyone with a mac help Lola?

Everytime I try this I get an error saying it has cached invalid urls and wants me to restart my browser. I can't even get it to connect to the internet on my mobile router anymore. Anyone else have this experience?
Sorry I can't help you either, except to say that it works when using a Visible SIM in a regular phone. There may be additional tweaks required to make it work in a mobile router since it is not an "approved" device. Visible don't seem too bothered by people using mobile routers with their service ... there is discussion on their forum (community.visible.com) ... but you are on your own and they will not give official help or support.

Thanks you! We had a long successful run with this bypass. I just bought starlink mini. The price for May dropped to $299 and I'm heading west where there will be no internet. As a solo traveler, I can't be completely disconnected from the world.
