Exhaust?

Just wondering if any of you gasser owners out there have shortened/rerouted the exhaust after the muffler? It would open up a whole lot of real estate under there if it’s possible without too much of an increase in noise level or other issues.

Stakealot,
I rerouted to drivers side exhaust using a standard elbow and tip. No issues with fumes or noise... it has even passed 3 VA state inspections performed at the dealer (no promises for your state).

The biggest “concern” I had was boiling my brake fluid since the exhaust now passed underneath the brake lines that are mounted on the frame. I solved that by fabricating a heat shield. This was probably overkill as I never measured the temps but it allowed me to sleep better.

Not really sure where to post this, but given my current situation this thread may be the place and now may be the time for an exhaust re-route. While changing the brake pads tonight I came across something missing in my exhaust system, see the picture below. My guess is that someone thought it was a catalytic converter but its also possible it was straight piped with couplings and something fell off. For some reason I thought I had something there, maybe a resonator? I am still looking for an exhaust layout to confirm exactly what is missing but maybe its time to just re-route the system.

That must be the dumbest act of thievery I've ever seen or maybe he wanted a straight piece of exhaust pipe because there's nothing in that section of exhaust (no catalytic converter or resonator). (My PM is a 2018 159 inch).

Here's mine. There's not even a clamp in that area that could have let go. I have better pics but I can't find them now. But trust me, there's nothing of value there other than a piece of pipe.

Ok, now I'm curious. Phil's link (that I didn't see as I was posting mine) shows a resonator in that area. Do you have a 2017? My 2018's exhaust system is a straight pipe in that vicinity. The only thing that looks like a resonator in mine is a blob near the back.

Ok, I found another pic of what I think is the resonator that I have and showing what the system looks like from the back.

Being extra intrigued, I went out just now and took a pic in the dark just to verify I wasn't going mad. (I spent so much time under the PM this summer and thought I knew it well.)

This is my 159-inch 2018's middle section of the exhaust. As you can see, it's a straight pipe.

Are we Canadians missing a resonator???! Could our PMs thus be unnecessarily noisier than those of our southern friends???!

More seriously, do American PMs also have that blob near the back that I think is a resonator? It's in Phil's linked diagram along with the resonator in the middle.

And I think I see it way in the back of his photo. And if the blob is indeed a resonator, do American PMs have two???
