Size....camping vs overnight travel.....what to do with wet tarp when travel....is it better to not use???

I have a 12' x 15' tarp, attached to roof rack like an awning when van is used for camping. Remove & stow it in a large trash bag for travel. If tarp must be stowed wet, air it in the sun at first opportunity & replace the trash bag with a dry one. Trash bag that is wet inside gets reused for, well, trash.

Search this site for "awning" and you will find a variety of solutions, including RD's one-pole triangle. Rambler's procedure is pretty typical, though larger than most. Low roof is much easier than high.

I received my awning from Matt at the end of last week, he was really easy to deal with, responded to emails etc quickly and even with shipping difficulties the awning arrived exactly when he said it would. I haven't had a chance to fit it to the van (because it hasn't arrived ) yet but the build quality and design looks excellent. I would def recommend them..

I also do like Rambler except I use an empty Rubbermaid for the wet tarp, wet rain jackets, wet wet suits, etc. And I stand in it when I shower to catch the gray water. DIY tarps are cheap!
