Nowadays that many ambulance operators are switching back to gasoline engines due to reliability concerns with the EPA-mandated emission controls, would the ProMaster be really a good bet in this vocational application? The output of the V6, obviously lower than the V8 options from its main contenders (Chevy Express and Ford E-series), may not seem so attractive for some operators, but the lighter and more efficient driveline is a good way to counterbalance this disadvantage (alongside the better mileage). Other advantages from the FWD layout which led the Ducato to become one of the most popular vehicles for this application in my country, such as the smoothier ride and improved handling compared to a RWD, are even more sensible.

Even some standard-roof ones are used as ambulance, benefitting from the lower floor which leads to an increasement in the internal height when compared to a RWD.
