I'm looking to buy some second row seating for my PM and am pretty new to the van situation. Can someone point me in the right direction for seats that can fold down into a bed or out of the way? Thanks!
Unless you want to spend big $$$ for a bad bed forget it just get a decent seat. A lot of people seem to have good luck with Transit rear seats - good price, seat belts inc, readily available and not back breakers like the Sprinter ones.
Seat/beds are just an expensive, poor choice as wonderful as they may sound.
True to the rule form and function are on either side of a somewhat large chasm when it comes to bench seat/sleeper seats. But if you're like us with more than two heads to provide space and slumber for its a problem that needs solving. (We're 5 deep w/ 3 little monsters and an get out stay out ethic and a 159 Hitop.) After looking at the options available we went with the Van Specialties (VS) seat. ($2400 installed) A friend has had both the VS and the RB Components models. In his opinion, neither is great and each has its pros/cons. Both come with lap belts only, but for a few bucks and 3 holes in the floor more you can add Jeeper-style four point harnesses. If you can find a shipper that won't break your bank, I think the Scopema seat is a pretty good option as well. It has integrated shoulder harnesses for all 3 positions. I found a guy at Camper Van HQ (?) that was putting together a group order some time ago. It might be worth checking to see if he ordered any extras.
In general our VS seat works fine. Its a decent seat and a serviceable bed. Its like sleeping on a couch. Will I do it for a couple nights? Sure. Do I want to sleep on it nightly? No. We added an extension off the back so when its laid flat my 6' 2" has plenty of leg room. A sleeping pad on top makes for a more comfy sleep as well. Good hunting.
