Also curious to see others solutions. To get my mountain bike under the bed it had to be pretty high up. I can get up and down with a little effort buts its not ideal, gf needs a step.
We got a Step N Stor toolbox, as recommended by others on the forum. At night when the bed is folded down we use it to step up into the bed, during the day we use it outside as a step to get into the van. And of course we store a bunch of tools in it. It is a bit more expensive than I would think, but seems to be built well and sturdy:
But I was seriously considering a deck ladder. They make 'em for a boat deck. It would stow under the platform, and pull out and hinge down for use. Something like this.
You did not specify if you wanted a ladder / step from bed height or bumper height. This would be a blind faith ladder and butt first. Toe first may work if you cut arches on top of the cutouts. And works best with a small slope, larger slope would need extra bracing. The flat alternating ships ladder.
3/4" plywood
I like your books, but that is not the most impressive item in your photo.
Back in 2018 when I told my long term good friend ( we met in the 70s - we were 12 IIRC ), “Im going to buy a van & build it out”. He said immediately, “Where ya gonna hang “The Ball”?”. 🕺
I don't want to hijack this thread any further with a discussion of my build so I'll post more in the "Pictures" section sometime soon. ('Soon" being anywhere between a week or two, or a month or two from now)
Very cool, though I'm trying to imagine where it would attach and flip out of the way for a bed. As an aside, for its intended use that seems like a really good price for what it is based on all the positive reviews about the high quality
We had planned on a pull step arrangement with the porta potty inside it, but in the end we felt the space was needed more for the basement. So in order to get on the road we opted for a folding step ladder from Crappy Tire - not perfect but better than expected. When don't need it it just sits on the bed with the window covers. https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/...JpwVhKf0AaAvK3EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds#store=604
