Hello,
new member from Idaho.
Getting ready to sell my 31' motorhome and purchase a van to do a DYI camping conversion. I'm doing my research between the Ford Transit van and Dodge ProMaster van. So I may be posting some random questions here and there as I do my research. As soon as the motorhome is sold I will be starting my purchase.

First recommendation: drive them both. Or at least spend some lengthy time in them on the dealer lot.

We too were looking between the Transit and the ProMaster for our 'weekender RV' build. We had driven the PM and were quite pleased with it. We then went to look at the Transit. Dealer was closed on a Sunday, but we found one unlocked and spent some time inside. I'm sure its a fine van overall, but there were two things that nixed it for me: 1) The dash and driving position felt like I was in a Ford Escort. I want a van/truck, not a car. 2) Access from the front to the back seemed rather restricted by the center console. Made only worse with my short legs and having the seat moved far forward.

Oh, and we were also looking for the longest van possible. Which in the Transit means you're forced into the High roof model. And boy is it high... too high, for me.

Be sure to spend some time at the Transit forums as well. There's a couple long threads over there labeled something like "Quirks you don't like about your Transit" and "Little things you love about the Transit". Both would likely be a good read.
