Rd, this is for you. You have to remember that the cartel distributes fuel too and their will be no labels on the pumps until all of Mexico sells ulsd, but then it won't be needed.

Yes it is a quandary still. As many of you know the honest answers are always hard to come by as the average Mexican wants to be pleasant and helpful and by my asking if the pump has USB they are sure to say “Si Senior! We have what you want!” I know many folks in the Frontier Norte and can say they truly are trying to be helpful even if it kills my van! They also believe if the van fails and I have to have my tow guy come 500 miles into Mexico to get me that I can afford it and for me it is not a big deal as “All you Yankee have mucho dinero, and we are poor!” I can’t afford it though.
When PEMEX says it is done I MAY rethink it. Thanks for the site. When I got the van I had researched the ULSD (USB) situation and was sure it would have been solved before now!

I think I read somewhere that just adding a 20% mixture of Mezcal or tequila will get you anywhere you want to go in Mexico muy rapido. Worth a try?

Don't forget your hombre de cuero just in care you need a roadside repair however and don't say I told you it was ok ;)

Until April 2018 all fuel must be bought and delivered through Pemex. In April 2018 fuel may bought and delivered from other sources. Some say they will import from US, Japan and Europe. Gulf says they will guarantee a full liter. Here's some news articles about what's going on down south.

Northern Baja already sources from the US or Japan. The local Circle K in Sonoyta MX sources from the US as do many near border stations. Pricing along the border is scaled to reflect how much it would cost to travel North (or South) to buy in the local market. I’ll put some effort into understanding all you have found. Thanks!
After reading Steve’s trip report down Baja and meeting him on his return I’d like to get over there this winter. He left me some maps and lots of information but nothing on ULSD of course.

This is old news now but here's what was in mexico for 15 ppm ulsd and the 500 ppm is colored for farm and marine as in the states.
The regulation specifies two different sulfur content limits for automotive diesel fuels: 15 ppm maximum for the larger metropolitan areas, the Mexico-US border and 11 transportation corridors, as well as for imported diesel; 500 ppm maximum for the rest of the country until December 31, 2018 after which the maximum sulfur content shall be 15 ppm for all of Mexico. The 3 metropolitan zones defined in the Regulation are: Mexico City Valley (ZMVM), Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (ZMG), Monterrey Metropolitan Area (ZMM). The Northern Border Zone (ZFN) comprises the municipalities bordering with the USA in the sates of Baja California (5), Sonora (22), Chihuahua (11), Coahuila (14), Nuevo Leon (6) and Tamaulipas (13). The 11 transportation corridors are formed by the highways that connect the largest industrial and Metropolitan areas:

México City to Mexicali
México City to Nuevo Laredo
San Luis Potosí to Durango
México City to Tampico
México City to Merida
Minatitlán to Oaxaca
Highways to Guatemala
México City to Lázaro Cárdenas
México City to Acapulco
México City to Matamoros
México City to Monterrey
