I like my van a lot but seeing dead end, blind alleys like this over an incredibly basic and simple thing as a key (all dealers should be able to make a key and if they can't - stop sending them vehicles to sell) make me question whether I'd ever even consider buying another RAM/Stellantis vehicle.
If there was a good alternative with similar width and dimensions I would be all over it.

Finally heard back from the Ram Cares representative today to find out Ram does not Care (pun intended). I was advised by their representative that Thor, the company that does the camper installation removed the bumper at some point in their process and therefore it is not Ram's problem if a new key can not be programmed. She further advised that for that reason they are "closing" their case on this.

I had contacted Thor some time ago who assured me in writing that they never remove the bumpers of the vehicles during their installation process and of course it is not their problem. Guess it is obvious that no one is responsible and the customer spending well over $100k gets left with a van and no way to get a new key even though the van is actually still within the warranty period by both Thor and Ram. However, neither is responsible as long as they can point their finger at each other for the problem.

The Ram representative indicated she was very busy with transmission problems..... Now that made me feel much better....Just doesn't seem that the inability to program a key is very "high" on their list since I still have one key that works. She advised it may not be a bad idea to contact another Ram dealer who "might" be better at programming keys since the dealer I was using could not figure out if they should use a four or five digit pin code during the programming process. I asked if there were any "high volume" promaster dealers in my area that might be better trained at this and was advised to check their website for other dealers. She checked while we were on the phone and just said their were over 40 other dealers showing up near my zip code and I should just "pick one".

That is my next step as others have recommended but have had other priorities recently. I am wondering if I should even mention to the new "random" dealer that it has already been unsuccessfully attempted?

I am hoping that "in time" auto locksmith software will catch up with the programming of a new key? I am also wondering if there is any possibility of having the only working key I have "cloned" in some way? Wouldn't be surprised if a car thief could clone it but unfortunately don't know one to call....

I would contact consumer protection agency and credit card company and have them fight for me. I know that consumer protection isn’t as good in USA as in many other places but it may be worth trying. That is a sad story! It seems such a trivial problem but it really isn’t.
I wish I could redo the whole key thing in my van but it seems impossible as well. We are stuck because someone needed to install their junk in new vehicles and they have the insurance companies on their side. I know I sound like a conspiracy weirdo, but so much choice are taken away from consumers in the name of capitalism.
I stop ranting here.

Thanks for reply and it is frustrating. I agree that large companies and government have taken over our country and now have the power to do whatever they want due to a "lack of competition" and small business that have been decimated in our country. Agree it may seem trivial and there are much worse problems to have so I am not that upset but certainly would be if I did not have a working key. Ok, I will stop ranting also but agree customers don't seem to matter to big business anymore.

@CarKeys: I know you suggested to take to another dealer but am wondering now if I risk them messing up the only working key fob I have? After reading another post about a similar situation debating if I should just wait until the software is readily available to vehicle locksmiths and if any educated idea how long that could be given I have a 2022? Also wondering if there is a possibility the
Ram dealer I purchased the key from (not local to me) could have sold me a defective or used fob and if a programming dealer should have a way to confirm that the extra one is not defective?

I had hoped that Ram Cares would have offered to get me another FOB to try but unfortunately they are MIA...

I am very discouraged following this thread. Here's my saga.
I lost my 2022 Promaster Van fob 8 months ago. Went to the dealer (and I bought the extended warranty) to get a new fob and for some reason I don’t quite understand they couldn’t make one. Unfortunately I lost the 2nd fob and had to have the van towed to the dealership. They had my vehicle for 13 days. First parts were on back order. Then they couldn’t figure out to program the fob. They charged me $1480 for Labor and $1905 for Parts. During one of the many phone calls someone mentioned a know issue with 2022 fobs and the fact the the design was changed during Production of later vehicles. In conclusion 2 new fobs costs me $3588! To add insult to injury the next day my van wouldn’t start and is now back at the dealer. How would you proceed? I am an independent delivery contractor and this van is my livelihood.

@RamCares - this type of garbage needs to be addressed, @Tom555 IIRC needs 10 post and 10 days to message you directly.

Yes ...it's possible you got a bad key from the dealer .
Automotive locksmiths have software to test keys for frequency ( lock unlock buttons ) and check if key is locked / bricked .
To many failed programming attempts will lock up the system.
I read @Tom555 post , that scares the [email protected]# out of me , amateurs let loose on software with no plan B if it doesn't work.

Make a introduction post so you can interact.
This garbage scares me I have hidden the spare to our 22 and am waiting for a aftermarket solution. How is it possible for Ram to justify the incompetence and theft by the dealers.

I suspect my system is "locked up" then as many times as my Ram Dealer tried without success. Hopefully after some time or there is a way to "unlock it" at some point?

I am probably NOT going to another dealer now because don't want to make the situation worse since I still have the one working key and if you (carkeys) think I should try again with a dealer at this point please advise?

Too bad Ram CAres has not been any help with this and not trying to criticize them and would like to give them some credit if they would assist but to date nothing but "crickets".!

Thanks for replies.
