If You Have Purchased Or Ordered A 2023 Promaster

12110 Views 173 Replies 28 Participants Last post by  jflochner
I am planning to order a 2023 Promaster in the coming weeks - 1500 high roof in my case.

KBB is indicating that I should pay something like 10 percent off of MSRP for the vehicle right now, and I understand that prices may be declining week-by-week at this point.

If you have purchased or ordered a 2023 Promaster in the last few weeks, I would appreciate information on the final price.

Either a percentage off MSRP or relative to Invoice Price would be helpful to me, and I assume to others as well.

Thanks

I added my information to the spreadsheet.

  1. Order Confirmed. Sep-10-2022
  2. Scheduled. Oct-12-2022
  3. In Production. Jan-27-2023
  4. Vehicle Built. Jan-28-2023
Still waiting on shipping, although it says estimated delivery is 4/10/2023. I’ll believe it when I get the call from the dealer that it is there…
An update, now the tracker is saying 6/15/2023 for estimated delivery. Oh no.

I've created a spreadsheet to track the progress. Anyone welcome to add their as you wish. You don't need any accounts, anyone with a link can edit it. Please be neat, brief and try not to mess with other peoples entries. Add columns as you feel appropriate.

I feel it might become beneficial to understand the timeframe.

That’s what we did, we ordered exactly what we wanted and then kept a look out for a better deal on a van sitting on a dealer lot. It all depends on how much free time you have to mess with it and how bad you want a van!
Wouldn't you have lost your deposit on the order if you ended up buying?

I'd hope not. I'd never do a non-refundable deposit. The last five special orders I placed required no deposit. Three of those orders I didn't take for various reasons. Dealers know they can get more if I don't take my order as I negotiate the price so low. This 2023 PM was most I've paid percentage wise as it was at invoice. I wanted 3% below but dealer said no to a 'commercial' vehicle. Sadly, invoice was still the best offer seven months ago.

I have a [standard?] stipulation in my contract, that if vehicle is not delivered in 90 days, I have an option to take the deposit back and walk away. The stipulation is obviously from the pre-covid times.
Now, for today, dealer kind of hopes that you would cancel your order, and they can sell your vehicle 20%+ over MSRP. And they happily refund you deposit [with interest (just kidding) ] for the privilege to take van from you.

Like the others said, I did not put down a deposit. I have bought quite a few vehicles from the dealer over the last 20 years. Any time I have special ordered a vehicle there has not been a deposit unless you order something out of the ordinary that they can't sell if you back out. A high volume dealer is going to order vehicles for stock anyway so it's not really a big deal for them to spec it the way you want as long as it is close to what they were going to order anyway. Under normal conditions a sold order gets built before dealer stock which helps them if they are low on inventory but with the way things are now its a crap shoot.

We ordered a custom build 2023 Ram promaster 2500 January 23, 2023. We were told 5-6 months. No VIN yet. How do you see progress online? We are from PA. How long is everyone waiting for delivery?

You can track here but it’s not the most accurate: RAM Vehicle Order Tracking

Ours took 8ish months? Order was placed in June, delivery in Feb

You need the order number to track it, not the vin. Mine took 6 months. 5 months to build. 1 month shipping.

Mine was about the same as Dwight's. 6 months. Ordered August, built January, delivered February. Showed up on the tracker in October once RAM 'confirmed' the order. As mentioned above, you'll need your VON (Vehicle Order Number) to use the tracker.

Did you get your van yet? I ordered January 2022, no VIN.
What is your configuration, anything difficult?

I placed an order Sat 8 April 2023. Dealer claims it will be ordered following Monday or Tuesday. At that point, what can I expect from the dealer to confirm the order placed was the build I specified? I try not to be suspicious or untrusting, but .....

I'd hate to have my build sheet modified in such a way as to make it unappealing and far over cost of what I'd be willing to accept. I did not order, and do not want the raft of electronic driver 'conveniences' - ACC / Cross Traffic monitor / backup ballyhoo / etc. But somebody else might, and the price will certainly be greater later. And that certainly to the dealer's benefit.

I had visited the dealer on Sat 1 April 2023 to work up a preliminary build. I had their printed Configuration Preview. When I returned to order, the Configuration Preview featured a $1000 increase in the base price. 2023 PM 2500 159 HR went from $47075 to $48075!! - in one week! Sales guy and manager claimed they were surprised, had not been informed, and there was nothing they could do. Is this like checking cheap air fare too often from the same IP address? The fares alway increase ?

I ordered. Left $250 CC deposit. I live in Massachusetts and have the Motor Vehicle Cash Purchase Agreement with an order number. Configured MSRP including delivery of $1895 is $54960 before tax, title reg, doc($789). $58900 OTD and my head is swimming and I'm having a bout of reality check. This vehicle is nearly $20000 more than a similarly built model from 2020. The reality is that it is quite likely cheaper than it will be later. Or is it ? Can it continue like this ? A fool and his money ....

A HUGE shout out to all the posters on this forum!! I have read much and hopefully absorbed some of your sound and spirited information and opinions. I have been lurking and reading for months. Obsessively if you were to ask my wife.

Later .....

Thank you. i wonder how it is that you ordered 9 months after I did, and i have zero response while your van has finished building. My dealer said to me in january that there are 20 items that could delay production. I have about 5 items, i told him take the item off. Then he said maybe it won't make a difference.

I was told any modifications to my confirmed order would throw me to the back of the line. I ordered July 7th and am supposed to be built in May. 159 EXT HR 3500
Ordered the Promaster 3500 HR Extended on March 27, 2023 and was given a VIN number April 25, 2023. Dealer said it was unusual to get it this fast but not unheard of.
