It seems to me that this is a very important question as it dictates how you will build your van. There is a significant difference in building a van for extended living to those that use it for 1-2 week excursions. I am of the latter group in that I will use it for some long trips and would like the convenience of having all my gear ready to go, and to be able to park/sleep when I need to without having to setup a tent.
The real question I am getting at is this.
How much insulation is really needed for the van? I have never planned a camping (tent) camping trip where the weather was going to be too cold. I plan my trips to enjoy the outdoors and I think I will do the same with my van, especially since I love to hike with my dog. So do I really need to go all-out with insulation? My dog and I have camped (tent) in 32F weather, and while I would not consider it pleasant, it was manageable with the gear we have. I am, perhaps, naively, thinking I don't need too much insulation. But perhaps the van creates a more colder/hotter environment than when I'm in a tent? I would love everyone's feedback.
What are your thoughts?
