Thanks for picture. Looks different than what RAM shows on ProMaster page. The tensioner appears upside down, there’s an extra idler, and whatever was next to firewall (behind engine) is no longer there (maybe, it’s hard for me to see clearly). I assumed that is where power steering pump was before, but never actually looked at it. I meant to look at this area during Tampa RV Super Show but forgot. Thanks again.

Like many things that Ram had published about the 2022+ Promasters that picture is wrong, that is not the new Promaster engine.

I believe RAM pushed a software update to my van. The odometer is now showing at the bottom of my display all the time, as anyone would expect. I’ve since turned off the odometer setting to show in the upper display.

Random brake application is stopped since disabling forward collision

perfect van now.
That's great news. Now if they would allow those of us with Covid builds to install the telematics module to get the updates we would be in good shape!

I’d prefer that module not be there. It blocks so much of my windshield view, it’s like having a middle sun visor in the down position all the time. At my height, it’s borderline dangerous blocking my view in that direction. The bottom of the windshield would have been a better place for it.

I’m referring to the LTE modem that lets the Promaster “phone home” and do things like OTA updates and remote start from your phone.

Do you know where it is? I never activated the LTE service. I’m not paying for it and don’t want the free introductory period. I did activate WiFi connectivity when in my driveway.

My guess was the new massive module on the windshield. The SOS button is right behind the big module.

The module in the windshield is the camera for the FCW, ACC, Traffic sign reader, Auto high beams, etc. Even if you don't pay for the service, the telematics module lets Ram push updates to the van without going to the dealer. I'm not sure where it lives but it's most likely under the dash somewhere.

Possibly the same module they'll use to turn off/on certain features/services as they ramp that up.

That's the one. I bet Ram wishes they could just issue refunds on the monthly fee of a lot of the 2022 features haha. It also phones home to let your dealer know when you are due for service. I liked it on the pickup, I could start the truck from my watch when it was hot outside. $10mo vs $500 up front for the key fob remote start would make me pay for it on the Van if Ram would let me. They claim it's impossible to add one after delivery...

I think if you want to stay away from big brother you are going to have to get used to riding in some more "vintage" vehicles.

@dog_house - Yeah, saw a recent YouTube video where modern vehicles were no longer described as cars, trucks, etc but as semi-autonomous computer/tracking/smart systems that can to take you places too. As AI gets further integrated we may even have to start negotiating with our vehicles to get them to drive us around. ;)

Lets hope the current engineering/software team at Ram moves on before then!

This whole thing is a good example of why right to repair is important. We spend $50k on a vehicle but don't own or have access to the software that makes it function. My line of work involves testing aircraft and things like control laws, and software validation are life and death. We don't change anything without making sure it won't cause a problem. The more control that electronics have over the vehicles, the more important that stuff gets. On a 2022 PM the software controls the stop, go, left, and right and it's pretty obvious that there was basically zero testing on a production vehicle before it was shipped.

The shift to giant LCD screens in non-standard size still annoys me for the very reason of “you’re screwed” if you want to replace it.

Im thinking of all the great software features you can play with while it’s broke down on the side of the road.
These guys are clueless on trying to build reliable vehicles instead of gimmicks.

I will say, the changes for 2022 should make the vans more reliable overall. The new transmission design is good and it’s been around long enough to get the bugs worked out, same for the new 3.6. Both have been in service over 5 years. Even the parking brake seems to be a step in the right direction. It drives like a champ and I haven’t seen the nearly new vans on rollbacks posts for 2022+ ones yet! Let’s hope it stays that way and we can stick to complaining about things that can be fixed with a software update 👍

Now there is a strong chance the van will lock you out of it on the side of the road, I’m not sure if that’s any better 🤔.

I noticed something interesting on my van today.

My driveway was a tiny grade to it. Not enough that I ever use a parking brake, but it does roll a bit until the transmission catches it.

The computer in the van seems to have turned on auto parking brake engagement. I’m going to leave it so.

I actually like the automatic parking brake on mine. It automatically disengages as well once you put it in gear and step on the gas.

The auto parking brake is another thing that doesn't stay where you set it so I just caved and let it stay on. It's a nice feature but I'm not sure how long the actuators are going to last since they apply every time you put it in park. It took me a few days to realize that you can just touch the throttle and the parking brake will release automatically.
