What are the black factory door panels made of?

I would like to make some new ones to cover instead of messing up the factory ones. Doesn't have to be exactly the same material, but I would like something as impervious to weather as these appear to be--which is why I'm not considering wood.

I installed the FRP panels from Lowes. Then I removed them.

I got tired of waiting for the smell to go away. They off gas the polyester resin used in making them. If you like the van smelling like a surfboard factory, you'll be OK.

Remember that FRP is heavy so if you plan on using a covering I would suggest using plywood as it is much lighter. You can also get marine ply like Baltic birch if you were concerned about moisture.
FRP 0.09" thick panels weigh .65lb per SF, 1/4" marine .78 per SF, plus marine or any other wood product would need to b sealed wood smells and molds when wet.

You compared weights of .09" to .25" to disprove my point?

FRP is heavier than plywood.
