6021miles = Oil change required.


I told myself I was going to change the oil at 6000 miles but I checked the dip stick and it still had plenty of oil. Now at 6021 like a mind reader it tells me Oil change required.
Looks like the filter cap uses a 23mm is that right?
Will the filter come out without taking off that hose above it?
I looked and looked and found the drain plug, but it is hard enough to get to that I am not smart enough to know what size wrench I might have to buy, maybe 18mm? can somebody help me out?
I know these are not very hard questions, but I like to know as much as I need to before I even touch it.
AND am I doing it all wrong? I've got 308 hours on it. I only get about 15 mpg. and now an early oil change?

I did a well documented write up on this here:

The wrench size is 24mm (15/16") not 23mm. My oil change light usually comes on at about 8k miles. I always use 5w20 synthetic.

I will usually keep the instantaneous mpg on my dash and have found that very slight changes in gas pedal position can have a big impact on mpg. Running errands I will get 18-19 mpg while highway I get 19-21 mpg.

I am at about 5400 miles now so we will see when that oil change light comes on for me.
