We are looking to add a cigarette plug socket in the back of our 2014 Ram Promaster to charge our 3000x Goal Zero. We were wondering if we could use the wiring from the cargo light located in the middle of the back doors? The light is missing but the wiring is there. We would appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Not recommended for several reasons. The cargo light may be on a timer from the cpu plus if it’s a light circuit it’s probably not a big enough wire to provide you with the amps you will need. A far better option is run a direct, fused, line from either your house battery (if you have one) or the starter battery. The house battery is obviously the best place. Make sure you use a wire and fuse of the correct size and you should be fine.

Charging that big a battery from a cig lighter plug will take forever. Instead, you could get Goal Zero's high current charging kit and connect it to your van's starter battery with an ignition on switch. That would go way faster, and get around the limitations is the cig lighter plug.

Good advice! We’ll have to check that out! Thank you!
