2022 Promaster Rear Brake Pads 68603420AA - No Inventory Available

Hello, this is my first post. Thanks for having me.

A couple of you have posted regarding this topic and I wanted to share what I have learned and see if there are any other options or additional information.

I operate a fleet of twenty-five 2022 Promaster 3500's. The rear brakes have an electric actuated parking brake and the only pad available for this year is 68603420AA. There are plenty of options for prior years but earlier pads WILL NOT fit the 2022's and there is NO aftermarket available at this time. This is confirmed by Stellantis National Fleet/Parts representatives, my dealer, and local shops and parts stores.

There were approximately 60,000 Promasters produced in 2022 and they all use this same brake pad. There are no pads available in the US as of 5/22/2023.

The rear brakes are wearing out prematurely on many of these vans at 25k-40k miles.

It has been VERY difficult to get information from Stellantis or my local dealer in Northern California. After squeezing them hard for a delivery date they are now saying June 12 at the earliest. Any later than this will jeopardize my business.

I have attached some photos of the pads for reference. These pads were removed from a van with 34k miles and have about 2mm life left.

This whole situation is totally unacceptable. Stellantis is the fourth largest automaker in the world and they cannot source parts for their own vans that are in use and essential for our businesses.

If you have any other info please let me know.

A smart parts person could make a pretty penny buying and reselling parts.

on a separate note,
@DCAL maybe dm @RamCares and see if they can speed up the time line on parts.
I dm'd Ram Cares and have not heard back
they replaced your windshield to fix the FCW? tell me more.
Sorry I wasn't real clear. When we break a windshield the glass and installation is very expensive because the glass includes the mounts for the camera & sensor that controls the lane assist, Forward Collision Warning, and speed limit alerts. All things we could live without and most drivers turn off because they can be a nuisance. The system is supposed to be re-calibrated whenever the glass is replaced. Some glass shops insist to recalibrate due to liability concerns. Some just replace and remount the camera/sensor and hope it is close. Most of our replacements have been $1200-$1400 with the recalibration. It is close to $800 just for the glass.

oh i didn’t see that you busted it. there’s a known 2022 issue with FCW specifically that Ram hasn’t solved. when i read your post i thought that was the resolution.
I have many vintage vehicles and remember those days of riveted pads being re-lined. I've had this discussion with some old-timers as well. No service like this available for bonded pads to my knowledge and would be a huge liability concern for a fleet owner with a modern vehicle. The sensor wire is embedded in the pad as well. Thanks much
it is a pickle & I assumed what you wrote would be the case, but one never knows.

sorry the idea won’t “pan out”.

I "think" he meant the cost is high because it has those features, not to fix those issues.

I have an OEM windshield on order because there is a tiny water leak at the top left on the inside that leaks down. When they remove the glass to repair, they stated that it will probably break so the window will be there if & when it happens. Oh joy...

Thanks much...just to clarify my offer. Must be factory fresh Mopar part number 68203420AA. No aftermarket that says it fits a 2022 but really doesn't. One set must be in my hands before my dealer gets inventory.

Good luck...I'm happy to pay the $100 if you actually find a set.

I see you have a 2023...does it use the same electric actuated rear parking brake and part number for the pads? I have not been able to confirm.
They shipped!
It might be worth your time to send them an email and ask how many more they have in stock.

when I washed van Friday, Saturday windshield cracked
Was it due to cold water on hot glass or something else?
It was overcast , about 70°, I did have my front sun windshield things up....I used hose to wet, hot water to wash, and water hose (cold) to wash down, dawn dishwasher liquid....did not notice anything til Saturday mornings

Thanks for trying! It was weird that it showed 2 sets in stock for you...and "Currently Unavailable" for me.

The sets I received from Ebay came in very damaged original packaging (sourced from the Czech Republic). I'm hoping the premature wear issue is not a pad related problem and these are part of a bad batch. I'm getting reports of pad end-of-life at 9,000 miles!

They do look like they will fit however. I appreciate the heads-up on these.
If the supply increases in Europe they should pop up, so far nothing.

When our local plumber and ambulance has no van to drive there is going to be a **** storm...
It would suck, but in a pinch I'd go to the salvage yard, Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market, and get a '14-'21 low mileage loaded rear axle assembly.

Example $250

Or just sell the vans for a premium and get some Transits :)

They probably already paid the 'premium' price when purchased. Poor investment for a business that depends on wheels rolling to create revenue. I would suggest the manufacturer and selling dealer are unethical maggots. I am sorry but the new owner of this fleet could go bankrupt while Stellantis and the selling dealer are laughing all of the way to the bank.

How many of the forumn members agree? Including @RamCares .

You know they have extra parts but instead of making them available for critical repairs they are maximizing profit by putting them into new vans to sell, thus catering to investors instead of supporting their customers, and dealers.

It occurs to me that my van is not a Stellantis product, it's an FCA product, which in some ways was better (haven’t had a single issue in over 52K miles and 3.75 years). Unless several things change (including electronics issues) I don't see myself buying a vehicle from Stellantis.

Stellantis is the parent company of FCA and the brands below. Your van is a re-badged Fiat built in Mexico just like the 2022's. Prior to 2022 the vans had their issues but not like the 2022+. The new brake system, and electronics that support Lane assist, FCW, speed alerts, Blind spot monitoring and the many other safety features and warnings are proving to be very problematic and many critical parts are severely backordered.

Yes, those of us who have had our vans (and been on the forum) awhile know all that but when I bought my van in 2019 Stellantis did not exist so was not involved in prior FCA decisions. Since FCA merged with that whole mess to form Stellantis, customer support appears to be going seriously downhill. I understand Covid threw a wrench in things but it's improving in many most areas and starving the repair parts supply chain to keep cranking out new vans is a terrible business model, both for customer confidence and continued brand longevity. That doesn't even take into account that many CDJR dealerships treat their mechanics so poorly that turnover (and the resulting lack of experience) is a huge problem. Never thought I'd say it but if I were looking for a new van today even Ford is looking better to me at the moment.
