has anyone sucessfully added a center console that can flip up to a seat in between the single seats in the 2016 1500 promaster? or maybe mount a flip up jump seat to the back of the passenger seat mounting bracket? I have a need to occasionally bring my wife and daughter on a trip.
I feel the seat issue is the PM vans greatest missing feature. If the body had a set of seat/shoulder belt anchors for a single or double seat we would have options when we design a conversion. I would add seat/shoulder belt to the dinette seat to carry an extra passenger and if there were a pair I might have built the dinette seat a bit wider for two. As it is I would not want a passenger on a seat in the middle front of the van unless on the factory bench with belt, and I would never add one of those.
Neither of those options looks good. I haven't seen one, but folks here say the bench is uncomfortable and has no adjustment--besides the fact that it blocks access to the back. Anything else would not be safe unless done by a pro,
As RD states, seat belts are an issue. The safest option would probably be an RV quick release base with integrated seat belt provisions. You would permanently mount a receiver plate on the floor and install/remove the seat as needed. Could even replace the seat with a console if you wanted. Atwood and Flexsteel still make these systems new, or they occasionally come up on ebay or CL. The pan would stick up about 1.5" and they are heavy steel so no worries about stepping on them. The Atwood base is completely flat, Flexsteel has a bump in the middle. Don't know how strong this area of the floor is though. You'd want to confirm there is ample reinforcement and access under the floor. Engine may be in the way.
I haven't pulled the trigger yet on a PM, but if I do, I plan to remove the standard passenger seat base and install a Flexsteel quick release pan. Then my wife could ride in front while sitting in her wheelchair (wheelchair would drive right over the base plate). When she's not riding, I could install a seat for an able bodied passenger. Hadn't thought about it before, but I could install one in the center as well. If you mounted it back a few inches further back, the dash center stack wouldn't be such a problem for 3 adults up front.
The pictures aren't great here, but item "Atwood Van Midship Quick Release Base (pan + base)" for $172 is one example. Not sure it has the seat belt provisions you need but there definitely bases that have mounting for seat belts if your seat doesn't have an integrated seat belt. http://www.superior-seats.com/Van-RV-Bases-Accessories
