Only Drivers Side Heat

Hi!

I have a 2014 Promaster with 160,000K on it or 100,000 miles with a 3.6L gas motor, I am only getting heat from the the driver side vents, floor or defrost or middle all the same. The drive side blows warm/hot air and the passenger blows cold. It does not have any dual climate options. Any idea what it could be?

Regards

I know occasionally when I start up on a cold morning and have my air directional control turned to the floor position from the day before rather than the dash I only get cold air. It I move it back to the dah position I hear a damper open up and hot air comes out the dash and the floor as expected if I move it back to the in between or floor position. For what it's worth, it might be a bad solenoid or whatever the control the air flow with.

Since you have heat on one side then the blend doors are working the air is diverted to the outlets after the blend doors. I would look for loose duck work to the vents. Put a bright light under the dash and then look in the vent for light seepage best done in a dark place.

I had a 2009 RAM 1500 pickup that had this issue, and it was a bad blend door actuator. The drivers side had plenty of heat, but the passenger side always got fresh outside air. There were 4 different blend door actuators on that truck. The part was common to a whole bunch of vehicles, not just RAM, and I got a replacement from Dorman. Search eBay for "Dorman blend door actuator Promaster 1500" to see what it looks like. The actuator can go bad, or the control assembly in the dash can go bad and not send the signal. The door actuator is the most likely culprit but if you want to make sure you can locate two of them and swap them, and see if the problem follows the blend door actuator or not. If it does it's the actuator. If it doesn't, it's the controller but realistically the blend door actuator is more likely to fail.

I haven't been able to find any decent parts diagrams for the Promaster yet, but I would expect the blender doors to be accessible behind the cup holder area, or maybe behind the radio and down a little.

The blend door actuator is behind the drivers floor vent up high. To remove and see it you need to remove the steering column cover and floor vent. If it is working you can see and feel the blend door actuator cam more the blend door rod by selecting hot or cold on the dash.
