I ran into the Lady from the library and got the chance to apologize for my cutting short our conversation earlier. She and her partner do have a house in town and are from Fairbanks Alaska! That explains a lot about being in AZ in December. It turns out she has an early 2000’s Sprinter which had a conversion from a previous owner. It sound like it needs modifications to make it more suitable for their needs. The discussion revolved around her perhaps getting a newer van and how it might be fitted out. She is not happy with the factory conversions available and seemed to understand what new Sprinters cost. I invited her to the forum as I think there is much to offer here. In a few days I’ll take my van down and we can compare.
I so enjoy meeting a new owner and more of the neighbors here as well. Which brings up another meeting that just happened on our walk this morning.
This is a LaStrada conversion on a Ducato HHT, higher than any available here. It was brought over from Belgium by a couple touring Canada, the US and Mexico. They passed through town on their way to Baja. I discussed the normal Mexican concerns and as they have a 3.0 L diesel, one issue was the availability of USLD diesel in Mexico which may not be available in S. Baja. Their van needs it too. The van was sent from Antwerp to Halifax NS by a moving company as a roll on-roll off. The cost was $2000 and priced per cubic meter.
